The DVD album released as part of the project New voices, rediscovered operas. Establishment of the Polish-Norwegian Opera Academy is carried out by the Grazyna and Kiejstut University of Music in Lodz in cooperation with Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera. It was recorded at the Concert Hall of the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Lodz on 6th April 2022.
The Goldoni’s libretto resembles Molière’s comedies and draws handfuls from the tradition of the Italian farce. The excellent intrigue of the comedy harmonizes with the humorous music of Haydn, in which the composer brings out the magical atmosphere with sophisticated instrumentation. Eva Buchmann, Dutch opera director, describes the work: “It is a very funny piece, a typical example of commedia dell’arte paradoxically also touching on serious topics. (…) It is also interesting to place an action on the moon, where the king can become a servant, and the servant – the king. That way Goldoni, the creator of the libretto, showed the inequalities between social classes”.
Jan Willem De Vriend, Dutch conductor, responsible for the musical management of the opera, points to the uniqueness of the cooperation with young musicians. The conductor also emphasizes the universal character of Joseph Haydn’s operas, which deal with issues that are still relevant today.
