Opera-oratorio David and Bathsheba with music by esteemed Norwegian composer Ståle Kleiberg and libretto by Jessica Gordon, is the latest co-production of Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź and Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera as part of the international project New voices, rediscovered operas. Establishment of the Polish-Norwegian Opera Academy.
The two-act contemporary opera was first staged as part of the March performances in Trondheim. Four more performances will take place May 21-24 at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall of of the University of Music in Lodz. Musical director of the opera is Belarusian conductor Alexander Humala, who is well known to Polish audiences. Beata Redo-Dobber, who may be remembered as the director of the opera musical Lodz Story by Włodzimierz Korcz premiered at the Music Academy in Lodz, is responsible for the stage design, costumes and direction of the show. The cast includes young opera singers from Poland and Norway, accompanied by a symphony orchestra from Trondheim.
The premiere performance, scheduled for May 21, will be the Polish premiere of Kleiberg's stage work.
